HGSFP Best Paper Award 2009 for Thomas Greif

The HGSFP is pleased to announce that two of its students share the "Best Paper Award" for papers published in 2008. One of them is Thomas Greif for his paper on "The first galaxies: assembly, cooling and the onset of turbulence". Thomas Greif investigated in collaboration with colleagues in Heidelberg and Austin (Texas) the formation of the first galaxies with detailed numerical simulations. The most important result concerned the appearance of turbulence due to the complex interplay between dark matter and gas in the nascent galaxy.

Thomas Greif is working on his PhD-Thesis under supervision of Prof. Ralf Klessen at the Institute for Theoretical Astrophysics (ITA), which is part of the “Zentrum für Astronomie der Universität Heidelberg”. The prize of 1000 EUR will be split between the two winners.

Congratulations!
