The annual meeting 2011 of the Astronomische Gesellschaft will take place at Heidelberg University. Heidelberg University, Germany's oldest university, celebrates its 625th anniversary this year.

The meeting will take place in the New University-building in the heart of the city. It will start with an evening reception on Monday, September 19, and will end on Friday, September 23, 2011. The central themes of the meeting are "Surveys & Simulations", both of which play a major role in the astronomical research carried out in Heidelberg.

The meeting is organized jointly by the Zentrum für Astronomie der Universität Heidelberg (ZAH), the Max-Planck-Institut für Astronomie (MPIA), and the Astronomische Gesellschaft.

The morning sessions are dedicated to invited plenary talks and prize talks ranging from planets to cosmology. In the afternoons there are parallel sessions on a wide range of topics as well as the General Assembly of the Astronomische Gesellschaft. The public lecture on Thursday evening will be given by Dr. Rita Schulz (ESA, Noordwijk).

Special Excursion:
The German SOFIA Institute at Stuttgart University offers on Monday, September 19, 2011 an excursion to visit the SOFIA-Observatory at Stuttgart airport. The maximum number of participants will be 60. Busses will take you to Stuttgart, departing at 12:00 h. For more information and to register contact Cecilia Scorza, who will organize the excursion.
